The best way to describe this work is with three words: Simple, Gentle, and Effective

Simple: The approach is simple. Identify the active reflexes in a person’s body through palpation. Determine signals the body is putting off, and test the appropriate treatment points though gentle stimulation to see if they yield a positive result, thus confirming the diagnosis.

What makes this style unique?

Gentle: The treatment is gentle. After verifying the correct diagnosis and treatment points through palpation and real-time assessment for efficacy, the points are needled very shallowly with high quality needles specifically designed for painless insertion. Typically, only two or three needles are used for any given pattern, though multiple patterns may be treated over the course of a session

Effective: The way that treatment is organized, is like a building. Each action builds on the previous, and each layer of treatment has its foundation on the resolution of the previous pattern. In this way, very complex cases can be made simple, and yet the results can be profound. Because human pathology develops like an onion, having many layers, so also the resolution of these complex patterns is like the peeling of an onion. As each layer is removed, the patient is taken closer and closer to the root cause of their trouble, and the burden they carry is lightened until there is nothing left.

Disease, a layered approach to treatment...

As a practitioner, it becomes apparent with experience that disease is a progressive condition involving accumulation of pathological insults or injuries over an extended period of time. A scar, for example, can lead to disruption of blood flow and nerve conductivity that may lead to progressive decline in an apparently unrelated limb or joint of the body that has no obvious connection to the scar itself.

Another example is that of blood flow and blood stagnation. It is widely known among practitioners of Acupuncture and East Asian Medicine that blood flow, or some inhibition of blood flow, can be the root cause of nearly every illness know to exist. That is not to say that it is the only cause, but that it is a potential cause of nearly any problem a person may suffer from.

These examples are meant only to illustrate a point, and used to describe a process I would call Layering of pathology. The goal of treatment is to identify the various layers of pathology that a patient presents with, and to effect an Unwinding by treating these layers in order to eventually get to the root of a patient’s problem.

Acupuncture is a regulating modality. Needles themselves do not cure any disease, but assist the human body in doing what it was designed to do, by promoting its natural healing capacity. The beauty and simplicity of this style speaks to the reason I was drawn to study acupuncture in the very beginning. No matter how complex a condition may be, if it can be simplified into the individual components which brought about its development, then great strides can be made toward healing.
